Hurricane Dean and Mexico Travel

Hurricane Dean is forecast to be a Category 5 Hurricane when it makes landfall on the Yucatan peninsula late Monday or early Tuesday. When Hurricane Emily hit Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Isla de los Mujeres in 2005 tourists were stranded for days and it took intervention on the part of the US government to help them to return home. Hurricane Emily was a category 3 storm, a fraction of the strength of Hurricane Dean is forecast to attain. Hurricane Katrina, for example was also a Cat 3 storm when it made landfall.

The island of Jamaica is also in the path of the storm. Travels to the Caribbean should remain aware of weather conditions.
