Tropical Storm Kiko Turns to Threaten Baja California Sur

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09PM MDT 10/18/07 Tropical Storm Kiko (magenta arrow) continues to amaze forecasters and now the predicted storm track has a strong Category 1 Hurricane passing just south of Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday. Kiko will remain over very warm water through the 4 day forecast period and is expected to strengthen to become the most powerful tropical cyclone to threaten Baja this season. However, intensity and track forecasts for Kiko have literally been 'all over the map'  so we will be following the progress of this storm through the weekend. Baja Sur could certainly use more rain, but overnight low temps and the drop of humidity in the last two weeks would seem to preclude a tropical cyclone landfall. Previously, the latest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Baja was TS Olivia which made landfall on Oct 13, 1967
