Hurricane Ivo

Hurricane Ivo

I'm sailor in La Paz, so I'm watching Ivo fairly closely. Ivo is the first hurricane (to my knowledge)to go as far west as it did, and then hook back to Baja. This is a very abnormal situation. Usually when a storm is as far west as it is, we feel that it has passed us. Ivo is a first. Frankly there's no telling what it'll do. Right now (9/20/07 11:30 PM local) Ivo looks like its going to peter out into a TS before it even hits Baja and just give us some much needed rain. Cross your fingers! The truth is that in this new situation there's no telling just what Ivo may do...keep an eye on it. Remember 2003 when Ignacio went through La Paz? Everybody let their guard down thinking that we were done with hurricanes for that year. Three weeks later Marty came through and wreaked havoc!! Dozens of boats sank. Countless others were damaged. I'm not saying that Ivo is going to do the same thing, it probabally will just be a good rain...but we are still "in the cone" of the NHC prediction and that is always a time to be alert. The world needs more Lerts.
