Baja Fires affecting travel and business
Baja fires are affefcting travel and business. I personally have freight being held up at the US Mexico Border and know of several other businesses that are experiencing importation problems as the border crossing area has been evacuated in some areas. The Paseos del Las Americas area, in Otay Mesa where a lot of the freight forwarding and customs brokers are, has been basically closed or slowed down for the last few days.
As you can see here on a Google fire map Northern Baja is being affected by the fires as well as San Diego and to the north. Be advised to check roads and boarder crossings before heading south for the San Diego, Tijuana, Otay Mesa and Tecate borders.
One of 2 Baja fires burns parts of Tecate-area spa
There are two fires that are a blaze in Baja California as reported on saignonsandiego.com They have contained the Tecate fire as of yesterday afternoon but the fire in Ensenada is still un controled at this time.

Tropical Storm Kiko to Pass Harmlessly South of Baja California Sur
09AM MDT 10/22/07 Tropical Storm Kiko (magenta arrow) is now about 250 miles SSE of Cabo San Lucas and moving west by northwest. The forecasts call for TS Kiko to continue to weaken throughout the forecast period and pass about 200 miles south of Cabo San Lucas tonight. A cluster of strong Highs off our map to the north (blue arrow) are providing us with compressed isobars (yellow arrow) on the east side of The Sea. Opposed to the lower tropical pressures there is a difference of 30Mb. The Sea will have winds to 25kts today from the NE and waves will build to 6' in the southern Sea. Temperatures in Baja California will be below normal in the upper 60's to low 70's while Baja Sur will have winds and seasonal temperatures. A storm is developing in the Tehuantepec but is not expected to develop cyclonic action. Baja Sur experienced another small quake over the weekend. A 4.0 magnitude quake struck near El Triunfo at 9:48AM local time Sunday. .

Tropical Storm Kiko Turns to Threaten Baja California Sur
09PM MDT 10/18/07 Tropical Storm Kiko (magenta arrow) continues to amaze forecasters and now the predicted storm track has a strong Category 1 Hurricane passing just south of Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday. Kiko will remain over very warm water through the 4 day forecast period and is expected to strengthen to become the most powerful tropical cyclone to threaten Baja this season. However, intensity and track forecasts for Kiko have literally been 'all over the map' so we will be following the progress of this storm through the weekend. Baja Sur could certainly use more rain, but overnight low temps and the drop of humidity in the last two weeks would seem to preclude a tropical cyclone landfall. Previously, the latest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Baja was TS Olivia which made landfall on Oct 13, 1967

Tropical Storm Kiko Churns North Toward Baja California Sur
09AM MDT 10/17/07 Tropical Storm Kiko (magenta arrow) is wandering NNE some 550 miles south of Cabo San Lucas. Intensity forecasts now indicate the storm will increase in intensity some, but fall short of hurricane status. The system is forecast to move just north of the Socorro Islands by Monday. It remains unlikely that Baja will receive more than overcast or light showers should the storm move in our direction. The air mass over Baja Sur is now too cold and too dry to support cyclonic activity. Off the Pacific coast our isobars (yellow arrow) are stacking up and winds should increase in that region from the WNW. We have one tropical wave on our chart (orange arrow) which may catch up with Kiko by this weekend. Upper level winds are increasing (note blurred cloud tops) and may end Kiko sooner than expected.

Clear Skies and Lower Humidity come to Baja California Weather
09AM MDT 10/09/07 Another beautiful early fall day here in most of the Baja Peninsula today. Clear skies, slightly cooler temps and lower humidity will make this a great day to get outdoors. Down south there are two trofs (orange and yellow arrows) but no tropical waves. A large area of thunderstorms is near Cabo Corrientes moving SW. A stationary Low (magenta arrow) is close to the Yucatan, but no longer expected to form a tropical cyclone.

Tropical Storm Juliette Runs Out of Steam West of Baja California
09AM MDT 10/30/07 Tropical Storm Juliette (magenta arrow) continues to parallel the Baja Sur coast some 360 miles WSW of Cabo San Lucas. The system will move over cooler waters today and dissipate by Thursday. Spin-off from the storm (yellow arrow) will bring clouds and the threat of some light rain to central and northern Baja. Baja California Sur will enjoy clear skies and seasonable temperatures. Down south we have one tropical wave (orange arrow) and some thunderstorms (blue arrow) we will be watching over the next 36hrs.
