Baja California gets Rain - Baja Sur may get Thunderstorms, winds early week

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MST 11/30/07 Today is the last day of Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season, although any real threat to Baja passed about 45 days ago. Today, most of Baja will experience cloudy skies and light rain as a result a a Trof (yellow arrow) and associated Low in the Pacific. Thunderstorms (red arrow) are being pushed ahead of the system and may effect Baja Sur late today or tomorrow. A moderate High will push along the Baja California Coast over the weekend and is forecast to bring northers to the Sea late Sunday early Monday. Another High off the BC coast will push SE inside a stationary front ( magenta arrow) and push a series of Lows (yellow arrow) east and reinforce our North winds early in the week.

Clear Skies and Cool Temps as High Pressure clears Baja California Weather

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MST 11/22/07 The weather pattern that we have had for the last couple of weeks is about to change. The Low (red arrow) that has been established over SoCal is being pushed east as the whole Pacific weather pattern begins to move in a more winter like ESE direction. A Trof (yellow arrow) is ahead of the Low and will push into western Texas late today. This will open the 4 Corners area to some stronger Highs (magenta arrow) moving SE. A High (blue arrow) off our map to the west is expected to move due east being just west of central Baja by Sunday. We could be looking at moderate northers in The Sea by Monday. For the next 72 hrs winds are forecast to be under 15kts from the WSW shifting to the NNE by Sunday. Seas are expected to remain under 2' in much of the Sea and under 3' in the crossing. On the Pacific side winds are expected to be from the NNW to 15kts and seas 5-7' from the NW. Down south we have a lone tropical wave, no development is expected.

Beautiful Weather for Baja California Sur and Clouds for the North

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MST 11/21/07 A Low (red arrow) offshore from Ensenada is anchoring a cold front (yellow arrow) pushing south near the CA/AZ border and bringing mostly cloudy skies to Baja California and partly as a result there is a marine layer/fog covering most of the west coast of the Baja peninsula this morning. This should burn off quickly except near San Ignacio and San Quintin. Two Highs (blue arrow) over mainland Mexico should keep Baja Sur clear and dry today with winds light from the west to WSW, unusual for this time of year. Up north, a High (magenta arrow) is being pushed south ahead of a Pacific winter storm that will affect the PacNW late in the weekend. This may also set up a condition for northers to return to the Sea as well. Down south, we have two late season tropical waves (orange arrows) that are unlikely to find any warm unstable air to generate tropical cyclones this late in the Season,

Revolution Day in Mexico - Beautiful weather in Baja California Sur

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MST 11/20/07 Today is the actual Dia de la Revolucion which was celebrated yesterday.

A Low (red arrow) over SoCal is buffering the usual north winds that occur when a High (yellow arrow) is near the 4 Corners area of the US. A High (blue arrow) is over central Mexico and is keeping most of NW Mexico cool and dry. Temps in Baja California will be in the upper 70's while Baja Sur will be in the mid 80's. Fog will burn off by midday in Central Baja while an early marine layer in Baja Sur has already evaporated. A High (magenta arrow) will be pushed into WA/OR and will move toward the 4 Corners area and could bring us some north winds by late in the week. Forecasts for the next 72hrs call for light winds in the Sea from the west to SW and seas in the crossing to be under 3'.

19th of November a holiday in Mexico?

Really the holiday is on the 20th of November and is known as Revolution day. The 19th is a "Puente" or bridge in English meaning that they decided to take Monday off so as to give many people a 3 day weekend. Most celebrations and parades will be on the 20th November and the actual history of this special day is in the following article:

November 20th Holiday in Mexico

The 20th of November is celebrated in Mexico as the declaration of a Mexican revolution that began on this day in 1910 due to a plan issued by a writer and revolutionist Francisco Ignacio Madero. So this was the beginning of a revolution and the not the end as many seem to think. In fact it is commonly called Revolution Day here in Mexico and it did not have anything to do with the Spanish or French occupations that had been in the past.

On November 20th of 1910 Francisco Ignacio Madero started this Mexican revolution against the ruling President of Mexico at the time, Jose de la Cruz Porfirio Diaz Mori. On the 20th of November was a call to arms in a document called the Plan of San Luis Potosi written by Madero in San Antonio Texas and published in San Luis Potosi Mexico. The plan was a call to all Mexicans to raise arms against and to bring down the authoritarian dictatorship of President Porfirio Diaz.

Franciso Ignacio Madero

Earlier in the year of 1910 during the elections that President Diaz claimed were to be to fair and return democracy to Mexico, however Diaz jailed Madero and approximately 6000 of his Maderista, anti-reelectionist compadres. Not allowing Madero to participate in the elections after he and his wife had vigorously campaigned against Diaz and Madero had become known as the “Apostle of Democracy”. After Diaz was elected President; Madero was then allowed some freedoms like to ride around San Luis Potosí during the day under armed guard. He then was able to flee Mexico to San Antonio, Texas via the Mexican U.S border at Laredo on October 4th 1910.

The Plan of San Luis Potosí asked for the nullification of the elections of 1910 and to physically take up arms against the Mexican government. Madero explained the necessity of these actions due to the extremity of the situation and the lack of independance that the Mexican people were living in.

Here is the beginning of the Plan of San Luis Potosí translated into English
” Peoples, in their constant efforts for the triumph of the ideal of liberty and justice, are forced, at precise historical moments, to make their greatest sacrifices.
Our beloved country has reached one of those moments. A force of tyranny which we Mexicans were not accustomed to suffer after we won our independence oppresses us in such a manner that it has become intolerable. In exchange for that tyranny we are offered peace, but peace full of shame for the Mexican nation, because its basis is not law, but force; because its object is not the aggrandizement and prosperity of the country, but to enrich a small group who, abusing their influence, have converted the public charges into fountains of exclusively personal benefit, unscrupulously exploiting the manner of lucrative concessions and contracts.”

This document did begin the revolution and eventually in 1911 Madero was declared President of Mexico. While he was not President for long being assassinated in 1913 the revolution he started actually lasted through many years and many battles that included such famous revolutionists as Zapata and Pancho Villa with its official termination in 1924 with the election of President Plutarco Elias Calles succeeding President Alvaro Obregon.

Viva la Revolución! Viva Mexico!

Baja California Weather - Sunny & Coastal Fog

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MST 11/19/07 Happy Revolution Day in Mexico, Dia de la Revolution celebrates the began with the call to arms made on November 20, 1910 by Francisco I. Madero. Government offices, banks and many businesses will be closed today. A High (blue arrow) over the mainland is keeping most of northern Mexico, including Baja, clear and dry. Baja Sur will be sunny with highs in the low 80°s while Baja California will have coastal fog which will stretch south into the central valley and San Ignacio. There is a tropical wave on our map (orange arrow) which will have a very slight chance of stimulating thunderstorms, but with 11 days left in the Eastern Pacific Hurricane season, cyclonic formation is unlikely and affects on Baja are improbable. Up north a weak High (yellow arrow) is moving east from the 4 Corners area and a series of Lows (magenta arrow) will move SE bringing snow to the 4 corners area and perhaps some light SW winds to Baja in the next 72hrs. Winds are currently forecast to be light, under 15kts throughout the Sea from the NW to WNW through the period. On the Pacific side winds may top 15kts from the NNW. The crossing should be light with seas under 3'.

Early morning clouds and fog may persist through midday south of San Quintin through Guerrero Negro and in the costal TJ/Ensenada area. The High (blue arrow) over central Mexico is offsetting the Low (red arrow) near Cabo Corrientes keeping winds in the Sea light through the 72hrs forecast period. On the Pacific side however, winds may peak near 20kts from the NW tomorrow. Winds and waves in the crossing are forecast to be light under 15kts and under 3' through the forecast periods.

Monday is Dia de La Revolucion in Mexico and all banks, state and federal offices as well as many businesses will be closed Monday.

Baja Sur may get Tropical Rain while Baja Sur may get Winter Rain.

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MST 11/14/07 The Baja peninsula has busy weather to the north and south of us, but for most of Baja it will be a overcast fall day. A Trof extends from the Sea of Cortez to a High (magenta arrows) near the CA/AZ border. It is anchoring a stationary front (lt blue arrow) that is shifting SE bound Highs (blue arrow) to a more easterly course. This is all being pushed east by a winter storm Low (red arrow) which should keep the stronger NW winds limited to the upper Sea, Winds are forecast to be light, from the NW in the Sea, but yesterday the forecast called for less than 10kts and la Paz experienced +15kt northers. There is a stationary High over central Mexico (blue arrow) and a late season tropical wave (orange arrow) moving into our basin, but it will find little tropical moisture to stimulate.

A Low (yellow arrow) off the Baja Sur coast will pump tropical moisture into Baja Sur and forecasts call for a chance of afternoon thunderstorms

Baja 1000 Starts in sloppy conditions as clouds break in Baja California Weather

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MST 11/13/07 We used up all the arrows today, with lots happening on our weather maps. A weak Low (yellow arrow) brought some wet conditions to the start of the Baja 1000 in Baja California and will provide overcast conditions for much of the central and later today, southern parts of the peninsula. Additional precipitation is not expected. A Trof (magenta arrow) runs the length of The Sea held in place by two Highs (blue arrow) over the mainland. Up north a moderate High (lt blue arrow) will be pushed ESE by an approaching cold front (red arrow) and will bring winds 15-20kts in the northern Sea from the NW. Wave heights to 4' in the northern Sea while things will be much calmer in the southern Sea, winds forecast to be under 15kts through the period and seas less than 2'.

By the way - it is Tuesday the 13ths that are rooted in superstition in Mexico

Baja Weather: Cold front Pushing into Baja California - Baja Sur has Great Fall Weather

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MST 11/11/07 A very quiet southern map while there is plenty of activity in our North American weather that may effect Baja later in the week. Some clouds will move through Baja California as a weak cold front (yellow arrow) pushes through SoCal. Baja Sur will accumulate some light overcast or scattered clouds later today as fragments of the Pineapple Express float over the state. A cluster of weak Highs (blue arrow) Because of the Low over California (green arrow) and the Low over The Sea, we are buffered against the northers which usually blow when Highs meet the 4 Corners area. A beautiful day through much of Baja with temperatures in the low 70's in Baja California and upper 80's in Baja Sur.

Baja California Weather - A Beautiful day in Baja Sur

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

08AM MST 11/08/07 A crystal clear fall day in Baja California Sur, where temps are expected to be in the high 80's today. Baja California will also enjoy a nice day, although marine layer will keep things cloudy along the Pacific coast well into the day. A Low (yellow arrow) is stalled over SoCal as a continuous string of weak Highs (blue arrow) parade through the 4 Corners region of the US. This will provide light winds (5-15kts) from the NW to NE through the Sea. Wave heights are expected to run 3' from the central Sea south and build to 4-5' in the crossing later tomorrow. A gale (magenta arrow) is blowing in the Tehuantepec. The tropical cyclone threat to Baja passed just about a month ago and by the looks of the ITCZ there may be no further activity in the Eastern Pacific this Hurricane Season which officially ends November 30th.

09AM MDT 11/06/07 Baja California will have partly cloudy skies today as a result of a Low (yellow arrow) over the CA/AZ border, A series of weak Highs (blue arrow) is being channeled by a stationary front (green arrow) and will move through the 4 Corners area of the US and bring light NE winds to the Sea over the next few days. Winds are expected to be under 15kts in the northern Sea and less in the Southern Sea. Wave height is expected to build to 3' in the southern Sea from the winds up north. Baja 1000 May Cause Road Delays on Baja California Hwy 1

November 2, 2007
Baja 1000 Info
Baja Fred - Veteran Baja Driver

Just made 2 trips down in 2 weeks. first was with my son and 2 friends who did most of the race course pre run.  There are a lot of people out there doing the pre run and unfortunately some are not slowing down when going through some of the small towns and Ejidos which can only hurt when they try to use the same course in the future. Most are vey respectful but it only takes a few to mess it up.

Also any one coming down should avoid driving on the race days as there are sections where the race is on the main highway and the may incur some long delays.

All in all the road was in very good shape.  Only place road work with traffic control was between Mulege and Loreto. Thanks for all the great articles and keep up the good work.

Winds may increase slightly over the weekend as a stronger High (yellow arrow) moves SE to the 4 Corners area. Current forecasts call for winds in The Sea to be under 10kts through Monday. A gale (orange arrow) is blowing in the Tehuantepec as a cold front moves across the Caribbean behind Hurricane Noel..Temperatures in Baja California should be in the 70's and temps in Baja Sur will be in the high 80's.

   Weather  in Baja California

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 11/01/07 Another late summer day for Baja Sur today as temps will again broach the 90° mark and skies will be clear and sunny. In Baja California temps will be in the mid 70's and a marine layer will extend inland from the Pacific near San Quentin for much of the day. A Trof (yellow arrow) extends south from San Francisco to the Sea and is responsible for our light NW winds. Winds in the Sea are forecast to be light, under 15kts and seas less than 3'.  A cluster of Highs (green arrow) is moving toward the 4 Corners region but are not forecast to develop into a norther for The Sea. Another stronger High (magenta arrow) will move SE from the Canadian border and will bring cooler temps to Baja California late in the weekend and a chance of increased northers.
